Contemporanea is an online platform that brings you soulful, handcrafted jewellery by female artists from around the world. Each piece is chosen with care and intention, celebrating connection, self-expression, and ethical making.

  • Who makes the jewellery?

All jewellery at Contemporanea is made by independent artists. Each artist has their own creative voice, technique, and story. You can learn more about them in the Artist Directory on the website.

  • What makes handcrafted jewellery special?

Handcrafted jewellery is made slowly and intentionally. Each piece carries the time, skill, and care of the person who made it. When you choose a handcrafted piece, you are supporting an artist’s livelihood and bringing a meaningful object into your life.

  • Are all pieces one of a kind?

Many pieces are one of a kind. Others are created in very small batches. Because everything is handmade, each piece may vary slightly and will always have its own character.

  • Do you ship within New Zealand?

Yes. Contemporanea ships across Aotearoa New Zealand using NZ Post for both urban and rural addresses. Orders are usually processed within 2 to 3 business days, plus shipping time. Free shipping applies to New Zealand orders over NZD 120.

  • Do you ship to Australia?

Yes. Contemporanea ships to Australia. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout. Free shipping applies to Australian orders over AUD 200. Orders are processed within 2 to 3 business days, plus shipping time.

  • Do you provide tracking for orders?

Yes. Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive an email with tracking details so you can follow your parcel.

  • Is there a shipping pause period?

Yes. From time to time, shipping may be paused due to travel or artist visits. Current shipping pause dates and dispatch timelines are always listed clearly on the Shipping page. Please check that page before placing your order if timing is important.

  • How do I care for my jewellery?

Care depends on the materials used. As a general guide, avoid contact with water, perfumes, and chemicals. Store your jewellery in a dry place. For silver pieces, use a soft polishing cloth. If you are unsure, feel free to get in touch.

  • Can I return or exchange a piece?

Yes. Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase, provided the item is unworn, in original condition, and in its original packaging. Because many pieces are one of a kind, returns are handled with care. Please contact Dani for support before sending anything back.

  • What is “My Pick for You”?

My Pick for You is a featured piece chosen for a limited time. It highlights one artist and one special creation, sometimes offered at a special price, and invites you to discover the story behind it.

  • Do you offer gift wrapping?

Yes. Every piece is wrapped with care and attention, making it ready to be gifted.

  • How can I stay updated on new arrivals and events?

You can join the mailing list through the website. Subscribers are the first to hear about new arrivals, limited pieces, events, and behind-the-scenes stories.

  • Where can I see Contemporanea in person?

Contemporanea regularly takes part in creative markets and fairs, mainly in Wellington and surrounding regions. Upcoming events are shared through the mailing list and social media.

  • Why doesn’t Contemporanea do Black Friday sales?

Contemporanea supports slow, intentional making and the value of handcrafted work. The worth of an artist’s work does not change with commercial sales cycles. Instead, occasional special pieces or thoughtful offers may be shared in ways that respect both the artist and the wearer.
